Newly arrived from Mexico, seduced by the concept of the American dream, Inma Fernandez goes illegally to Austin, Texas where she hoped to begin a new life. Naturally ambitious, she wished to get rid of her miserable past and to do it, she changed her real identity and from then on she is called Monica Alvin. She was only 17 but she behaved with such wisdom and maturity as though she was ten years older. Moreover, she had managed to find a modest accommodation and had joined a high school which she could finance thanks to a job of waitress. She came through all marvelously and was promised to a glorious destiny. Monica embodied magnificently the American dream. Regrettably, most beautiful stories have an end, and in this case a tragic end. On the occasion of the graduation ceremony, during a washed down party but completely deserved, Monica fell in love with a good-looking Texan, her feelings betrayed her and happened what had to happen. It was probably her only mistake and who could hold it against her? This way began her nightmare. At the end of the summer 1978, she ended up in a hospital bed, without family, and besides three months pregnant. She cried her eyes out. She saw all her dreams falling apart. Her one and only income allowed her hardly to survive. However, when the gynecologist had asserted that in reality she went to have two newborns, more precisely fraternal twins - it was a girl and a boy. This pregnancy, at first sight ordinary, had been transformed into a serious depression. Her mental health didn’t allow her to leave the hospital even after the childbirth and consequently she spent all her days thinking about her future. Her children didn’t really matter for her; she was obsessed principally by her professional career and was frightened at the idea of failing. Fear is a feeling which is quite difficult to control and which can drive us to the madness. Therefore, panic-stricken, Monica decided suddenly to sell her daughter to a rich but sterile couple which in exchange will pay in full her degree course. The deal made, Monica’s health improved considerably then she could, from then on, leave the hospital and, above all, go back to her interrupted studies of medicine. Again, she succeeded in all she did. The years passed and Monica redid her life with her “only child” Dan. She was a famous heart specialist and most of doctors married with a colleague.
Dan, as well as his unknown sister Catt, went to the most famous school of the city where curiously they saw each other since their earliest childhood without knowing really their common past. Gradually, this friendship turned in intense love. The time spent and their love was growing up day after day until speaking about marriage. Dan began to talk more often of his fiancée to his family circle, what made Catt very anxious and excited to meet his mother, Monica, who will probably be her future mother -in -law. She decided to organize an evening out to the restaurant with Monica and Dan. When they finished, Catt decided to invite, once more, Monica at home for meeting her parents… but appeared a few minutes later Kevin, a colleague from work, who arrived at the couple stress and had a brief discussion with the mother…
In the evening, Monica returned to her room, very tired, therefore she decided to sleep early this day. When she arrived front of her office, she saw that the door was opened. Surprised, she entered into the room to glance inside, and there, she saw that her safe was broken! A robber stole about 5000$, and, of major importance, the birth certificate of her children. Flabbergasted, she decided to call the police but, in spite of caring about the burglary, she was busy by the wedding's preparations.
The traditional family meeting arrived. Monica wore one of her best evening’s dresses and adorned herself with her finest jewellery. She was a little anxious of the fact of becoming acquainted with the bride's family.
In the evening, Monica went all excited with her son and her husband to the familial dinner. She noticed that the front of the house was very welcoming…
She rang the door, smiling to her son and waiting for the opening of the door impatiently …
A woman opened the door with great ease; it was the Catt's mother, she greeted the son, the father but when she came to kiss Monica, the guest felt like a déjà vu, but when she saw that Catt didn’t look like her parents, she realized that Catt was in reality her biologic daughter and consequently the sister of her future husband, Dan…

Thus, she didn’t answer the several calls from his "stepdaughter" or improve spending time alone with his son to criticize Catt but in vain… the ceremony was scheduled for the next month…
Days paraded one to one, the wedding day approached, Monica became more and more terrible head-on Catt…
The D-day arrived; it was 3:00 p.m. a hundred of people was present in the ceremony, everyone except Kevin. The guests were all eager to celebrate this union, everybody was happy and impatient to see the newlyweds exchange rings and kiss under oath except Monica; she was anxious and depressed forced to think about what is happening this day and looking her son nervous and happy…
The melody as expected began to be heard throughout the room, everyone turned to the door and saw the beautiful bride incoming and moving toward her man.
An icy silence invaded the room; the priest did the usual rituals of the ceremony. But suddenly, when the priest announced the sentence that gives the last word to the guests to oppose the marriage, the doors opened and Kevin entered, jealous an nervous… and he said “if I don’t have what I want, nobody will have it”… he pointed a gun toward Catt and he fired a cartridge but the bullet didn’t touch her, Monica was front of Catt…
The crowd was terrified and anyone knew what was happening exactly. Crazed, Dan rushed to Kevin and put ashore him.
The marriage was cancelled and the police came and Kevin was arrested… He confessed the whole story to the police; the housebreaking, the birth certificates…
Dan and Catt were aware of the history; Kevin was sentenced to life imprisonment; Monica died, saving her daughter’s life; probably from maternal instinct.
