Rita Morgan...

Rita Morgan, a young South African business executive, was walking to her office when she noticed that there was a police car right in front of the company building. She headed to the 16th floor, slightly nervous.
When she entered her office and saw the police officers who were questioning her colleagues, her fear increased. One of the policemen stared at her and came. He asked:
"_ Are you Rita Morgan?
_ Yes I am.
_ Well Miss Morgan, you're under arrest for the murder of you boss, Robert Taylor."
At first she didn't believe what she had heard.

There was only a table and two chairs in the interrogation room. The inspector asked her:
"Where were you yesterday between eight pm and one am?
_I was having dinner with some colleagues. We had to speak about some projects.
_ That sounds really weird miss Morgan, because we found your DNA on Mr. Taylor's corpse. Who can prove that you were having dinner at that time?
_ Any of my colleagues. I still don't understand how could it be ! "
At that moment she remembered a very important thing.
"_ Wait! There was that waitress. She spilled wine on my sweater. She took it and I didn't get it back from her ! We should go and see her!"
They went to the restaurant and searched the waitress. Rita saw a door opened in front of her. She said to Inspector Troy : " we should check this room let's'get it in"
They got into the room and turned light. Right in front of them! They saw the waitress talking with a man. The waitress was beautiful, tall and blond haired. She was blue eyed her lips were so pulpy. Rita recognized both of them, the man was John Sherman, her boss's assistent. Troy took his gun and screamed : "Freeze!". The two criminals started running followed by Rita Morgan and Inspector Troy. But the police cars were blocking the way. The cops caught them. Troy said to Rita : " i think we have our killers now". Then they started laughing. Rita returned to her flat and had a bath. She was pouring water on her curly black hair when the phone rang. She answered :
"-Hello?
- Miss, Morgan. It's inspector Troy. We questionned the suspects. We finally know what happened.
- Please tell me.
- John Sherman organised that dinner and paid the waitress to steal your sweater. She poured wine on you and managed to do what she was asked. She collected hair on your sweater and went to your boss's house. She killed him with a gun and dropped your hair on his corpse that's why we thought it was you. For this i really apologize. Later we learned that Sherman had an argument with Mr Taylor about a promotion.
- I'm so glad to hear this Mr Troy.
- Goodbye Miss Morgan and sorry again"
And she went to sleep. She was free again .

In the golf course...

In the golf course, John swings the ball. He sends it just next to the hole. He's good golfer because he began it five years ago. His friend, Tommy, says:
- Good Job!

         John, twenty-seven years old, is an American living in New York City. He’s an only child, but he considers all his friends as brothers, especially Tommy, his best friend. He is an engineer and works for a car industry. He's well built, rather tall, dark haired and blue-eyed man.
- And as always, he's the best! says Rose.

         Rose is the John's fiancée, it means that they're engaged to get married, and the wedding is going to be tomorrow. Rose is twenty-five years old and she's teaching mathematics in a high school.
- So, the last stroke, and... It’s in! John shouts.
- It's impossible to beat you, actually, says Tommy.
- I'm sure one day you'll win, replies John.

         The day after which is the wedding day, John prepares himself at home: he wears a suit with a tie. Tommy enters in the room and says to John:
- Are you OK?
- Yes, I am, and you, are you ready to be my Best Man
- Yeah, don't worry!

         They leave his house and go to the church. The pre-wedding Ceremony started 15 min later. Parents, friends and guests were in the church and John is waiting for his future wife. The wedding day is the most important day for the couple. They wanted it to be a perfect day.

         The processional music begins with the wedding March. Rose is wearing a wonderful white wedding dress. When the priest started the opening prayer, suddenly one guest present in the church, said:
- You should stop immediately this ceremony!

         John, surprised, replies: “Who are you? And why are you saying this?”
- He is a friend of my father, says Rose  
- My name is Peter and I know your biological parents, says the man
- Ok, who are they? Says John, my parents, here presents are my biological parents.
- Rose is your sister!! Shouts Peter

         All the people in the church are surprised and chocked. The ceremony is stopped. John tries to discuss with his parents. He doesn’t get any clear answer on this problem. His father says:
- Rose and you will have the confirmation after the DNA test.

         The day after, Rose and John went to the special laboratory, allowed to perform the DNA test.

         One week later, Rose and John receive the DNA tests results.

- We are officially brother and sister! exclaims John,
- It’s simply unbelievable! says Rose
- We need some clarifications from our parents, says John

         Once at John’s parents’ house, his ‘father’ explains the fact:
- Yes, you have been adopted twenty five years ago, we found you in a park alone. The Police did not succeed to identify your parents. Your ‘Mother’ and I have decided to adopt you.

         John and Rose leave and go to Rose Parents house. Big hugs and kisses. John asks his parents:
- Why did you leave me alone in the Park?
After a while, his father answers:
- That was your destiny...

The time passed since the first moment that Seth Fills, 29 years old, and Amy Roberts, 24 years old, have met in the case that she was implied on. Now, she's surrendered by her sister, Ashley, and the memory of her parents who passed last year. Concerning Seth, he never knew his biological family and never tried to know who abandoned him. But today, it's Seth and Amy's day, the day that will link them for the rest of their lives.Ashley used to hate weddings, but this one is her sister’s. So, she decided to stay until the end of the ceremony, but first she needed to talk to her boyfriend. She wanted to ask him to come over and stay with her. While she was calling him, somebody stole her purse. When Ashley realized that, she followed the thief as quick as she can without paying attention to the car. The second after that, she found herself lying down, full of blood. After the accident, everything passed fast, Ashley was in the hospital, Amy and Seth joined her.
After 2 hours of waiting, the doctor came with some news:
- Mrs Roberts..
- Yes, how is Ashley?
- Your sister is stable but she needs a lot of blood, she’s in a critical condition.
- Oh, my god !
- We would like to analyze your blood to see if it’s compatible with your sister’s.
- Oh, of course. I will do anything to help her.
A few hours later, when the doctor has the results:
-We’re very sorry Mrs Roberts but your blood group is not the same than your sister’s.
- Maybe you can try with mine, said suddenly Seth.
Seth wanted to help Ashley, she was like a sister for him. A nurse came and took him to do the analysis.
After one hour, the nurse came back, very excited:
-Oh, Mrs. Roberts, Ashley is going to be fine, your brother save her!
- He’s not my brother, you must confused with someone else.
- Mr. Seth Fills, right? I’m sorry, but the DNA test shows us that Ashley and Seth are brother and sister. And it means that…
- Seth is my brother too ! Oh my god, it can’t be possible ! We just get married !
- I’m really sorry.
This revelation troubled the family. Who would imagine that a teacher and a lawyer, met in random, are actually brother and sister? Certainly not them. Fortunately, Ashley gets out of the hospital, but for Amy and Seth, it’s another story. They went to see their grand-mother to have some answers. Apparently, their mother was pregnant of Seth when she was very young and raised by a protestant family who would never accept this child. So, she decided to give the baby to the adoption. Unfortunately, she had to sign a contract saying that she will never get in touch with her son. Seth’s father never leave her, and a couple of years later, they decided to have children: Amy and Ashley. Seth and Ashley thought that maybe there was a mistake with the DNA test but now, the grand-mother confirmed the truth: they are brother and sister.The new brides couldn’t handle the pressure so they divorced and decided to give to each other some time to accept their new situation.

Orlando Cain

Orlando Cain is the most efficient detective in his department. The authorities of Federal Bureau Investigation didn’t go twice before they chose him for supporting the intriguing case « Ericksen ». We must say that Orlando is Horacio Cain's son, the legendary expert and as you should know genetics never disappoints. The prodigal son inherited most of his father's qualities: intellectuality, sense of vision, professional involvement and redness for the physical appearance. But Orlando's heart is way much bigger than his father's, and in his job that usual positive detail can play very bad tricks. This case could be a turning point of his career, and it could bump him to the top. He would finally deserve to bear his last name. He has to resolve that case, he can do this, he has to.

 In a society driven by liberal eugenics, Andrew Ericksen is the most powerful scientist that Usa has ever known. He was a strong lawyer for genetics rights, he is one of those who have elevated science to its known place. His research on genetics has changed the world’s view of it. He has fought his whole life for this cause. Until his last breathe...

 Orlando is staring at this little and perfect suburban house, searching for any possible evidence, but nothing outside. He opens a brown massive wood door and takes a look inside. But found nothing at the first floor.

Then he calls his assistant : « Brooke, where is the body ? » « Upstairs sir.. »

 He goes up the clean and shiny stairs. Too shiny,  too perfect: weird. A spot on the banister draws his attention. He orders to make a levy. When he reaches the top, he sees the body. The man was killed in his bed, while he was asleep. No trace of suffering or any injury. Everything is perfect in the room, tidy and cleaned up. Cleaned up? The murderer has been good at taking care of every detail. He knows what to do, how to manage the situation. He's smart, very smart, but not as much as Orlando.

The investigation is long, the evidences are not significant and too much people are suspected. While Andrew’s family is impatient and wants revenge. The FBI's authorities began to doubt about Orlando's capacities. He’s not able to sleep at night, this case takes every single minute of his time, he wasn't able to find anything nor see anything and begin to lose hope.

 He receives a call in the middle of the night; it doesn’t wake him up knowing that he was already awake.  The call is from Andrew’s assistant, he seems worried:

-« Hello? This is Justin Timberlake, Mr Ericksen's assistant … I have to see you, I need to tell you something that is going to be helpful for your case, how about you joining me in my office sir... 

- Ok, I'm already on my way »

Orlando doesn't look for details on the phone; he jumps in his car and makes it really fast to the laboratory.

When he arrives the first thing that disturbs him is Justin's behavior. He's upset about something. Orlando knows that the element Justin hides will be very helpful for the case. It could be the key of all the issues. So Orlando decides to take the advantage of the situation. He looks at Justin straight in his eyes and speaks to him: « Justin, it’s obvious that you know something, you have to tell me what's wrong. I'm sorry I made a mistake, I shouldn't have called you. I'm sorry; you have to leave now...

-       Or what? Is he coming?

-       Who?

-       The murderer!

-       No, off course not...

-       Oh, so you know his identity?!

-       Sir, I told you to leave...please.

-       Hiding vital information to the police is liable to imprisonment. Look, I know you're afraid but I can offer a protection. 

-       Oh, believe me you really can't!

-       What do you fear? Are you blackmailed by someone? For God sake talk to me! There is a killer outside who may hurt people!!

-       I don't think you understand me, many people are involved in this crime.

-       Mmmhh, are you talking about a conspiracy?

-       Sir, you must leave, NOW! Or I’ll call the security»

Orlando pretends to leave, but he goes hiding in his car. He waits all night long before Justin leaves his Office.  In the early morning he sneaks inside the office like a thief. He enters Andrew’s office, turns on the computer of the deceased but he then relies that he needs a password. He looks for it during a long time, make many attempts, but he unfortunately can't find it...

 «Damn, I have to find this password... » told the man to himself.

He glances up and saw a fold on the wallpaper. He tears it off carefully. A huge poster appears on the wall. It represents a gigantic DNA molecule. He tries to analyze the poster. Below the huge molecule, he reads:

« CSA, what the hell does it mean? Curious Secret Association? Seriously, what  does it mean ? Mmhh, oh : Cloning Secret Association. I heard about this secret association. I really don't know how this escaped me. Let's try it on the computer... »

 He enters the words : Cloning Secret Association. And it works.

« Off course it works... »

The first thing that jumps to his face like a wildcat is an opened letter, saying :

« Dear Andrew, you really disappointed me, I thought I could trust you. A reliable source informed me of your wish to reveal secret information. You are the most gifted of my scientists, but obviously you're also the silliest, you want to inform the FBI of our secret operations. You're definitely not approving human cloning … You were so good with animals. It's too bad...

So I’m sorry to let you know that you're dead, for science and for our promising universe.

                     Your president, Horacio Cain. »

Some days later he receives the results of the laboratory. On the banister was a drop of blood, which was Orlando's father DNA.

Orlando had always deserved to bear his last name...

November 2020, Miles Hunter, a very well-known politician and candidate in the American presidential election, is about to marry Melissa Stancker, a very famous television host. Hunter will face tonight in a televised debate, his mentor, Manfred Von Karma, an experienced lawyer, known for his very special oratorical methods and candidate in the presidential election. Fifty minutes before the debate, Miles receives a call from an unknown number: he doesn’t know that this call will ruin all his professional projects and his private life. In order to comprehend correctly this story, we must go back a month before!

-Indeed, in October 2020, Miles and Melissa were enjoying a breakfast in their apartment, in Manhattan. Before going to work, Melissa didn’t find her purse in the apartment: very worried, she finally found it in the building’s stairs. Intrigued, she opened the purse and found a note, a very strange note. It said: “Are you really sure that you’ll marry Miles?” Melissa checked her purse, to make sure that all her important documents were here: except a bottle of coke, everything was in the purse. Surprised by this act, Melissa supposed that a fan (hysterical, of course) probably thought up this joke, in order to call her attention … But unfortunately for her, she was wrong! This information taken in consideration, we can understand the whole story. Let’s return on November 2020!

-Miles receives a call from an unknown number, he answers. A man, with a very threatening and menacing voice, says:

“ -Mister Hunter?

-Yes, it’s me.

-If you don’t want to shatter and ruin your life, you must abandon your project of being president and stop your electoral campaign.

-What are you talking about? Who are you?

-I’m somebody who knows everything about you … including some incriminating and compromising information for a very eminent politician, as you, Miles!

-Which information? I didn’t commit any crime!

-A crime is nothing compared to what I know about your life.

-Who are you?

-I repeat now: stop your electoral campaign and you’ll have a clear conscience!

-Never! Blackmailing me isn’t a very effective method, in order to dissuade me!

-Even if I reveal that your future wife, Melissa, is in fact … your sister?

-My sister? It’s ridiculous!

-My allegations are founded … scientifically speaking!

-Scientifically speaking … what do you insinuate?

- Have you thought about it carefully? I stole a bottle of coke, from Melissa’s purse in order to do something, because I want to prove a family connection between you and Melissa. So, what did I do?

-A DNA test?

-Yes, indeed. I collect some Melissa’s saliva, in the bottle of coke and I compared it with your DNA … The results are perfectly clear!

-But … how did you collect my DNA?

-Excellent question. I’m somebody that you’ll never suspect … more precisely, you’ll never suspect who is my boss!

-Manfred … You’re probably a Von Karma’s henchman!

-Perhaps. I give you a chance: if you abandon your electoral campaign, maybe that I’ll never reveal the fact that you’ll marry your sister. If you don’t accept, your career will be shattered and I’ll ruin your private life, by revealing all these secrets!

-It’s ridiculous …

-And if I say that Von Karma, who considers you as his son, was in fact one of your father’s friends and was also in contact with your sister’s adoptive family … with Melissa’s family!

-You’re wrong! Don’t talk about Melissa as if she is my sister!”

-At that precise moment, after all these revelations, totally hopeless, Miles hangs up the telephone. He takes a gun, puts it on his temple and pushes on the trigger. His body will be discovered twenty minutes latter, by Melissa. Desperate, she takes the gun and kills herself. This tragedy will move to tears all the United States. Next month, Manfred Von Karma will be unanimously elected  as new president and he’ll  cover up his implication in this case of double suicide.

... and the killer is...

In a snowy, dark, cold night of December 1949 in a little town of Scotland, a young girl appeared in front of the Central Hospital. She was wearing a loden coat and a scarf on her head. After a short hesitation, she eventually decided to go inside. As soon as she came in, she felt frightened because of the bustle and hustle. However she asked a nurse and all she could remember was waking up in a cold, white and sterile room having a horrible pain in her belly and feeling really sore. Yet she managed to get up and escaped as fast as she could because she felt really ashamed of what she just had done.

Nowadays, the same girl is 29 years old; her name is Jude and she is working in a big firm as one of the most important CEO. Since this awful day she has been running from her past but today it is catching up with her.

Indeed, in a beautiful morning of autumn, at the first rays of sun, policemen knocked at her door to accuse her of murder. Her reaction was surprisingly calm. This single woman was fridge and manic-depressive; so all her life was focused on her work. Everything was clean and tidy in her home as in her life nobody could understand her. She was hostile to any kind of relationship except the one with her little cat Solo. 

So that day, she just came out and followed the policemen to the police station. There she learned what she was accused of; and who she was supposed to have killed: the big boss, her own boss that had refused her a promotion a week ago. Her personality only helped the inspectors to make her even guiltier as she did not have any normal reaction: she never dined or even spoke; she just listened to the inspectors’ interrogations. Anyway, the inspectors did not have any material evidence to keep her, so she was released. Back to her place, her life continued as everything was fine but suddenly, memories popped up and her belly started to hurt her as the first day after her surgery, she started crying and sat on the floor: her past rebounded, and after years her pain was as vivid as the first time.

Nevertheless one of the inspectors, who believed that this kind of woman was not capable of doing such a crime, called “The Fox”, a private detective because he was smart and all his cases were successfully resolved. He started his researches on her and her past without finding any notable information expect that her life seemed to start when she was 18 years old. A few days after, and a lot of phone calls, he found that she had changed her name as soon as she had turned 18 and used to be called Marie Moore. In her original case he discovered that she had run away at 16 and that she had been through a surgery in the same time. Then there was nothing until she changed her name. This findings were not clear for the inspector so he decided to go see her himself with “The Fox”, hoping that she would be able to help him in his investigation. 

“The Fox” went to see her a Monday morning, she was not working and the door was opened. He found her sitting on her sofa with a glass of wine in her hand; he supposed that she probably drunk a lot. The inspector sat in front of her and started his interrogation. Then seeing that she won’t give any further information she had already giver to the police, he called her by her original name. Finally a reaction appeared on her face, she was completely frightened, he knew who she was! After a few minutes of silence, she started asking him and ended up panicking. After a while she just started crying and revealed everything about her, the pain was getting more and more powerful. “The Fox” was a good listener and an excellent analyzer, he put every pieces of the puzzle together and when she had finished he took her to do a DNA test because he knew that the police had found an unidentify DNA on the murder scene. The next day the test results arrived and according to the DNA that was in her case: she was definitely the murderer. Two officers went to her place to arrest her: as she was officially accused of the murder. However, as soon as they arrived they find her little cat meowing, the door wide open. The first one came in and went straight to the kitchen and to the living room: everything seemed normal, the second one went upstairs and found her lying in her bed, smiling surrounded by many empty pills’ limps. He started calling his team-mate while verifying her pulse: she was dead, she committed suicide. 

He found out a few days later that the DNA in her case was wrong and that she faked it for her new name and her new life. So an innocent was dead and the murderer was still free. When “The Fox” knew about her suicide he felt disappointed because he just had the DNA result that she made and which proved her innocence but in the same time he was not surprised and he was even happy for her, she had finally be released of the burden of her secrets and her regrets.

Although the DNA result found that the murderer was one of Jude’s relatives even if everyone knew that she had no family even by her real name: all her family was dead. But here “The Fox” showed all his findings and explained to his superiors Jude story. He actually explained that when she was young she had an out of marriage relationship and had gotten pregnant, unfortunately when she found out about it, it was already too late to get an abortion, so she had to give the baby away. She left him in the hospital hoping that a good family would save him and take good care of him. Her life changed at this time and she became another girl. After his story “The Fox” concluded that the murderer was Jude’s child.

A Brotherly Love

Certain youthful indiscretions pursue us eternally.

Newly arrived from Mexico, seduced by the concept of the American dream, Inma Fernandez goes illegally to Austin, Texas where she hoped to begin a new life. Naturally ambitious, she wished to get rid of her miserable past and to do it, she changed her real identity and from then on she is called Monica Alvin. She was only 17 but she behaved with such wisdom and maturity as though she was ten years older. Moreover, she had managed to find a modest accommodation and had joined a high school which she could finance thanks to a job of waitress. She came through all marvelously and was promised to a glorious destiny. Monica embodied magnificently the American dream. Regrettably, most beautiful stories have an end, and in this case a tragic end. On the occasion of the graduation ceremony, during a washed down party but completely deserved, Monica fell in love with a good-looking Texan, her feelings betrayed her and happened what had to happen. It was probably her only mistake and who could hold it against her? This way began her nightmare. At the end of the summer 1978, she ended up in a hospital bed, without family, and besides three months pregnant. She cried her eyes out. She saw all her dreams falling apart. Her one and only income allowed her hardly to survive. However, when the gynecologist had asserted that in reality she went to have two newborns, more precisely fraternal twins - it was a girl and a boy. This pregnancy, at first sight ordinary, had been transformed into a serious depression. Her mental health didn’t allow her to leave the hospital even after the childbirth and consequently she spent all her days thinking about her future. Her children didn’t really matter for her; she was obsessed principally by her professional career and was frightened at the idea of failing. Fear is a feeling which is quite difficult to control and which can drive us to the madness. Therefore, panic-stricken, Monica decided suddenly to sell her daughter to a rich but sterile couple which in exchange will pay in full her degree course. The deal made, Monica’s health improved considerably then she could, from then on, leave the hospital and, above all, go back to her interrupted studies of medicine. Again, she succeeded in all she did. The years passed and Monica redid her life with her “only child” Dan. She was a famous heart specialist and most of doctors married with a colleague.

Dan, as well as his unknown sister Catt, went to the most famous school of the city where curiously they saw each other since their earliest childhood without knowing really their common past. Gradually, this friendship turned in intense love. The time spent and their love was growing up day after day until speaking about marriage. Dan began to talk more often of his fiancée to his family circle, what made Catt very anxious and excited to meet his mother, Monica, who will probably be her future mother -in -law. She decided to organize an evening out to the restaurant with Monica and Dan. When they finished, Catt decided to invite, once more, Monica at home for meeting her parents… but appeared a few minutes later Kevin, a colleague from work, who arrived at the couple stress and had a brief discussion with the mother…

In the evening, Monica returned to her room, very tired, therefore she decided to sleep early this day. When she arrived front of her office, she saw that the door was opened. Surprised, she entered into the room to glance inside, and there, she saw that her safe was broken! A robber stole about 5000$, and, of major importance, the birth certificate of her children. Flabbergasted, she decided to call the police but, in spite of caring about the burglary, she was busy by the wedding's preparations.

The traditional family meeting arrived. Monica wore one of her best evening’s dresses and adorned herself with her finest jewellery. She was a little anxious of the fact of becoming acquainted with the bride's family.
In the evening, Monica went all excited with her son and her husband to the familial dinner. She noticed that the front of the house was very welcoming…
She rang the door, smiling to her son and waiting for the opening of the door impatiently …
A woman opened the door with great ease; it was the Catt's mother, she greeted the son, the father but when she came to kiss Monica, the guest felt like a déjà vu, but when she saw that Catt didn’t look like her parents, she realized that Catt was in reality her biologic daughter and consequently the sister of her future husband, Dan…

After the party, Monica went home shocked; she asked herself many questions and remembered the act of 1978, when she sold her daughter…and there she saw that Catt looked like she enormously.
Terrorized, Monica decided to do everything possible to separate the couple and to avoid the wedding ceremony without great danger but by love. Thus, she didn’t answer the several calls from his "stepdaughter" or improve spending time alone with his son to criticize Catt but in vain… the ceremony was scheduled for the next month…
Days paraded one to one, the wedding day approached, Monica became more and more terrible head-on Catt…
The D-day arrived; it was 3:00 p.m. a hundred of people was present in the ceremony, everyone except Kevin. The guests were all eager to celebrate this union, everybody was happy and impatient to see the newlyweds exchange rings and kiss under oath except Monica; she was anxious and depressed forced to think about what is happening this day and looking her son nervous and happy…
The melody as expected began to be heard throughout the room, everyone turned to the door and saw the beautiful bride incoming and moving toward her man.
An icy silence invaded the room; the priest did the usual rituals of the ceremony. But suddenly, when the priest announced the sentence that gives the last word to the guests to oppose the marriage, the doors opened and Kevin entered, jealous an nervous… and he said “if I don’t have what I want, nobody will have it”… he pointed a gun toward Catt and he fired a cartridge but the bullet didn’t touch her, Monica was front of Catt…
The crowd was terrified and anyone knew what was happening exactly. Crazed, Dan rushed to Kevin and put ashore him.

Writing on DNA

Sorry for being a bit late but time runs so quickly...
Well, this time, we are going to publish some short stories.


We first studied an article from The Sunday Times which explains that "... the handsome have higher IQs". This entailed lots of discussions ;-)

Then, the pupils worked on the trailer of Gattaca, a mysterious film which deals with gene manipulation. As scientists, it was something they really enjoyed and they could even teach me something I didn't know about some letters from the title of the film AT/GC (genetic codes). We learn from each others!
